Temporaryįiles are kept as long as possible but are liable to be deleted at any time without warning when free space is low (see select/delete below). It should be used for permanent files without the need for automated backups, e. g. smaller input files for model runs, std output etc. This file system is much larger than your $HOME and also controlled by quotas. $PERM provides permanent storage for Member State users but without any backup. It is possible, however, through NFS, to have access to any file system from any machine. Please note that the $HOME file systems on the server and the HPCF systems are different file systems.
$HOME should primarily be used for all smaller files you can't easily recreate. At ECMWF the following types of storage are defined: HomeĪll $HOME file systems provide permanent storage for user files with a regular backup so that in the event of a disk failure or an unwanted file deletion, files can be fully restored from the last available snaphots/backups.
